The price of petrol

A camera phone image from a Mobil station after filling up my Saab yesterday. $65 to fill up a Saab. I don’t feel too terribly bad though, since we drive so infrequently that a tank of fuel in this car will last 2-3 months. I talked to a woman across the pump from me who was filling up a full size Lexus LX470 suv – she drives 60 miles a day, and pays $120 every 3-4 days to fill up. Ouch! Imagine a large suv in the UK, where fuel is around $8 a gallon.

It might be time for one of these.

Saw a Cadillac Escalade at a station last week on my way to court in Mexico that I guess was headed to the Lake.  $71.00.  And it is only $2.89 down here.  Mom and dad and kids were piling into the fucking thing and I couldn’t help but laugh to myself.

I would add however, it cost $43.00 to fill the Audi.

$43? You’re not pumping 87 into that machine are you? August Horch would be rolling in his grave. Vorsprung durch technik!

Oh yeah…I bought a VW Beetle so I could get better gas mileage since all you can do is drive in Detroit.  It is great when you get angry looks from folks in the auto industry on the highway.  I thought I was going to kill myself when I had to fill up for $41.00.

And I noticed that you were in the D last January and didn’t even call…we are not friends anymore!

I am going to be in Chi-town for the last weekend in September for the tigers v. white sox if you would like to come to the south side!

You want to come all the way over here to watch them get swept again?

I drove a diesel beetle a few years ago, and the thing was awesome. It had loads of torque, and 55 mpg .

Let’s not talk about that sweep…I wanted my money back for our season tickets after that game on Sunday.

We get to town on the 27th and will be going to the game on Thursday and Sunday…I think we are going to head to Evanston on Saturday for Michigan v. Northwestern….just a sports weekend!
